Disaster strikes!

The cinnamon rolls had been in the oven about 5 minutes - at my best guess. They'd had their "oven spring" where they jump in size as they get hot, but hadn't cooked enough for the "spring" to be baked in.

Suddenly the power went out. Then it came back on. Then it went out again. It came back on again. It went out. This time it didn't come back on. Called the kids to see if I could finish baking them there. We were running around getting ready to head out the door when the power came back on.

I put them back in the oven to finish baking but the damage was done. They've shrunk to half the height they should be - one to two inches instead of 3 to 4 inches. Fred and I just did a taste test - no way are these going to be given as gifts. (If you click on the picture you can see how badly they shrunk in height. Maybe this is a hidden good thing - I'm now much less likely to eat them and screw up my diet!)

I guess our friends at Applebee's will have to wait another week for their Christmas present - and I guess it will be New Year's rolls!

Ahhhhhhhhhhh.what a shame..I live in fear of that happening in the midst of a huge family dinner. It never has, but I've always worried it might. I'll be these still taste good but I understand how you feel.

Patti, I am sure they still taste very good. In fact, how about if I come over (you need a third opinion) and give a taste test and confirm that they are still scrumpdilyicious. :) Our power has been doing the same. We have no t.v. reception now. This, too, shall pass.

Oh Patti...They took so long to prepare... :o(

I can remember a few years ago trying my hand at making croissants...out of 3 goes they only worked once and the other 2 times they ended up being greasy messes...
Then there was the time I was making a Christmas log and at the time I stored my salt and sugar in mason jars...well you can imagine what happened...I got my sugar and salt mixed up! Then on the second round my oven popped an element! It was third time lucky on that recipe too...

It happens to the best of us!

Oh no - such a sad thing - they looked so good.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas. It is so snowy here I just can't believe it! I bet you are enjoying the White Christmas - or have you had enough?

Merry Christmas

Ooh. Sounds so good too. I'd probably eat them anyway! It has been so long since I had a cinnamon roll! Yummy.
