This is the sewing room closet where all my casual knock around home clothes used to hang - jeans, shorts, tank tops, flannel shirts, etc. I've always thought of this as the "dark hole" because it's under the stairs and thus very little to no light penetrates the depths. Long ago I usurped the hanging space at regular height - this is where my drawer stacks of strips, squares, etc. live. Pillow forms and long ago projects - partially done needle point and cross stitch, partially done rag baskets, etc. - live in the back depths. Now I have the perfect place to hang sets of blocks and more while they wait for completion. Right now there are five sets hanging there, as well as three tops waiting for borders to be finished and three stitcheries waiting for something to happen to them. These were in the drawers in my center island - hanging them here is much better storage. I saved a bunch of the skirt and slacks hangers just for this use - they worked just perfectly!

Better storage for UFO's
This is post number 488 - only 12 posts after this one to reach 500. If I continue to be this chatty in my retirement I'll reach that by the end of this week LOL! Must be something about spending all day home alone . . . . do you think so?

What an excellent use of all that - space, hangers et al. Your ufos will most likely require much less pressing too.
Hmmm. Another good idea. There's a closet in the cats'room that is full of junk now. I might just have to put that cleaning project at the top of the list. There are a few tops I would like to be able to hang.... instead of folding and storing in tubs.
(Yes, our cats have their own room. :cD. It's DD's old room with two wonderful windows to bird watch through and a loft bed to climb.)
An excellent idea. But be careful, Patti, don't get too organized. I sometimes think that too much neatness takes away from the creative impulse! It's so much fun seeing you move into retirement mode. I'm taking lessons for when it's my turn!
I need more of those clippy hangers. As a matter of fact, I bought a pair of pants today and forgot to tell her to leave the hanger with the pants. :/ Didn't realize until I got home that she took the hanger off. :( LOL Wonder where I could buy them. :D
I love storing UFOs on hangers... but my biggest problem is that I seem to have block and pieces, not a hangable top! :P I'm trying to fix that. :)
I love storing my applique and embroidery blocks on skirt hangers - perfect!
I love how you are just making the most of your days *s* Clean closets and yummy treats. It's easy to see that you are going to enjoy retirement to the fullest.
So glad to hear that the little one will be with you soon . . . the excitement just builds.
You are getting so organized. I think it's a something that goes with retirement but don't worry. It will pass and you can go back to normal pretty soon. Lol.
Your clever ideas always inspire me!!!
And I love the idea that now you are retired you have thrown out all your clothes...lol...shall try not to picture what's happening there...and what the neighbors will say in a few years about the eccentric woman who gave up work...and clothes...and just sews all day!
Laughingly enjoying your retirement right along with you, Tracey
happy belated retirement, patti! i knew it was coming up, but am just now getting over here to see your WONDERFUL news!! my, my...the quilts that you are going to be putting out now! :o)
It looks like you have given this all a lot of thought and finally had the time to put it into action. Good job!
I also have some blocks hung on hangers to keep them flat and to avoid re-ironing when I take them out to work on them again. I lack the wonderful closet space that you have recently found though--I guess I have a few more years to go till the day I can purge those work clothes! :)
So it seems you're enjoying retirement. Will you come and clean my closet? I wish I could downsize to one wardrobe and not one for work and one for play.
Better yet would you like to come and help me create storage in my newing room closets sometime in March?
Your cinnamon rolls look yummy. I'll be over for coffee real soon.
Hidden Spaces!! Another one of those "Less is More" bonuses when we clean up and clear out what we don't want or can't use.
Good for you!!

This gives me some great ideas! If you have this much energy, maybe you should come and organize my house. :)
Kristie
Thanks for the idea. Using hangers should work out great for unfinished projects.
Blessings,
Winona
Oooo a perfect little storage area! And I'm so jealous of retirement! What fun your having!
Hi Patti,
Nice, tidy closet. We had one of those the first week we moved into our house. Give us an empty space & we can fill it fast! I'm sure you will do better.
I showed Gary your bags of clothing & told him you had cleaned out closets. He said, "Oh, she's making room for more fabric, huh?" I tried to explain your fabric diet, but he didn't buy it.

Hi Patty, sounds like you are having fun already! Baking bread and quilting :) Rosemary
Great storeage :)
Great storage ideas! I think I'm feeling the need for a purge and clean up around my own house.
Now that you are retired perhaps you should take a trip east and give me some inspiration on organization. I am desparate!
