Another tote emptied . . .

Or at least in the process of being emptied. I THINK this is the last small tote of scraps and little pieces. I don't think there are any more hiding in the room anywhere. This one had lots more of the big squares in it, plus the pieces I took off my fabric shelves and baskets when I was sorting for the yard sale. They have large chunks out of them and are of oddball size, so I'm cutting them up to make storing them easier. As you can see I'm pressing first - still have to press the pile in the front. I hope to have them all cut up by the end of the weekend.

This will leave only these two big containers - the worst of all. Fabrics are totally crammed into each of them. I think I'll wait for awhile before I deal with them. I'll sew up some of the things I've already cut, plus my drawers full of strips. And since it's now August I need to get back to my BOM's. I was caught up in June but I'm not caught up any longer!

Oh man! You have a chore ahead of you! but it will be so wonderful to get them all cut up and ready to use! You will for sure use them then!

I must ask! As you're cutting are your creative juices running? Are you thinking and planning as you're cutting? Are you anxious to start another wonderful scrappy project like your broken dishes? It's a chore, as Dawn said, but it'll be great when it's done.

Be sure and share your ideas for how to use up those bits. I also have many containers in the same condition and I am always on the hunt for patterns to use them.

I am happy to report that I only have one drawer that looks like that, but I also have 2 rolling carts that keep my cut up squares and strips! It's good when you ge them all done and can make a quilt from them without any new fabric!!

Good work!

Wow, what fun! If I were there, I'd be happy to help with the pressing. It's nice to see someone who has more scraps than I do.

you have made good progress on the cutting but enough is enough if you want to get back to the BOMs. I've been watching the Mariners scores just because I know you are a fan, LOL.

Patti, there is just no stopping you now is there? You are just diving into those scraps and taking charge! GOOD FOR YOU!!

would it work better to take some of the fabric from the larger totes and fill the smaller ones again, so its broken into more "doable" quantities?

Wow - that's a lot of scraps. I admire your determination to get through them. More power to you!

Hi Patti, you are doing a wonderful job of getting your scraps under control!! I'm just amazed how much you get done.
Those last totes look daunting, but one piece at a time, they will get pressed and cut up..*VBS* I have one that is very similar to the white tote..ug!!

You inspire us all, now to get back to those BOM's. Stay cool!! Hugs, Finn

WOW, that's a lot of scraps!

I'd be tempted to sort them just by color and stuff them in about 20 large canning jars, line them up on a shelf, for eye candy. Then when you need a bird's beak or 4 star points of a certain color orangy-yellow, you'd know right where to go. :)

Quiltpixie's idea of breaking up the big containers into smaller containers is my favorite idea. Yes, I have a huge container like yours and the organizing project seems too daunting. Maybe if I take a small portion each week to iron and cut into usable pieces, I would eventually get it all organized. Keep us inspired Patti!

We share the same container ! The brown paper one. My mother had one in each corner by her chair. Maybe thats why I am partial to them.
YOu are making good progress girl.

That certainly is a lot of Scraps. I'm sure you'll be pleased when you have them all cut down to what you want.
Look forward to seeing what you will make with them.

Okay, you win. You have more scraps and are more organized. When you're done, wanna come to NY and do mine?
I read in Shelina's blog that we don't like our old fabric. Since you got rid of a lot at the yard sale, do you really like everything you have left?
So, are your shelved full again?
