Saturday stuff

I'm probably not going to get much quilting done today - but that's OK. I loaded the fourth large Crumb Chaos top on the machine last night so it's all ready for me to start quilting as soon as I can get to it. This is the fourth backing I've done with the flannel I busted from my stash - and is probably the last. There is still flannel remaining, but it is mainly in long narrow strips I've trimmed off the other quilts after I've finished quilting them. I will use it for something - I may try to piece it together to back a smaller quilt. Or I'll add some brushed cotton plaids from my stash.

This morning I had coffee with Rebecca and since then I've been catching up on email and blog reading. I still need to wrap Sophie's birthday gifts - I'll do that soon. The party is late this afternoon and includes dinner - nice to have a day I don't need to cook!
I thought I'd share a picture of the doll quilt I posted last week being "modeled" by Gigi and her mom Katelin. It was a big hit! Mom Katelin insisted that the lights be turned out in the room right away because Gigi wanted to take a nap with her new quilt. It's so much fun to make doll things for a little mother who actually plays with her dolls!

Here, too, is today's Civil War Diary block "Oath of Allegiance". This one was the trickiest so far - because a 5x5 grid doesn't translate easily into a 6" block. I cut the squares to 1 11/16th inches - close enough!

Gratitudes:
1. Hot cocoa on a cold day
2. Beautiful sunny (but cold) weather for our holiday weekend
3. Audiobooks
4. Aveeno lotion for my extra dry hands
5. Spring bulbs shooting up all over my garden

Well I had your blog open finding the blocks, and then when I hit re-boot up came your next block. Kathie did an 8 patch, and I got that one done.

Now I think I am caught up...except for doing this block. I'll cut it out and get it sewn tomorrow. Thanks for doing the hard measuring work! *G*

Looks like two little dolls in the photo! Very cute! Your little block is very nice. Those odd measurements will do you in!

Happy, happy birthday to Sophie. I can't believe she's a year old already. :-)

Enjoy your night Patti :) Katelin looks well pleased with her present.

And the maths behind that block just do my head in. Being a metric girl the number you came up with just does not seem natural! LOL

I was commenting on your blog and lost it. Just found your blog. Thank you. Now I know what they mean when they say crumb block and how to do it. Thank you so much. Just got back to quilting after being away for so long. What is stash bashing? More question's later as I continue to read your blog. Thanks again

Wow - you have had a busy few days. I think the Crumb Chaos quilts turned out wonderfully - bet they get a whole bunch of use. It's hard to believe that Sophie is already celebrating her birthday . . . where did the year go?

Hi - I started quilting about 20 years ago - had to slow it down while the kids were in college so I could work to help pay tuition. I just stumbled onto your blog site and have really enjoyed reading your posts. I also love singing and playing the piano and have three grandchildren with another on the way. I was wondering what kind of quilting machine you used. I am seriously thinking about investing in one and just don't know where to begin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.. Good Morning - what a sweet granddaughter you have and how lucky she is to have a grandma like you! I am sure that quilt will follow her into her own home someday, to cover the doll of her own daughter. My granddaughter is now playing with a little doll quilt I made for my daughter.

Hi! Oh how funny! I was reading this post and we have something very much in common!! My daughter's name is Kaitlyn and her doll's name is Gigi also! Of course, it's a gigi doll but she kept that name for her too!

I have sewn little Gigi some clothes in my daughter's favorite color - blue. You can see them on my Luv 2 Crochet blog.

I am a newbie to quilting, but I am so addicted already! I love it! I have added your blog to my blog list!

Hi! I too have joined the sew many blocks ring but haven't yet got my hands on the book so I've been making up the blocks from other quilters' photos. But I have been stumped all day over the Oath of Allegiance! It should be so simple but yes! 5 x 5 into 6 - yuck! I'll try your 1 11/16ths! :) Warm regards, Lily
