I am so sorry if I offended anyone . . .

with my last post. It certainly wasn't my intention! If you knew me better you'd know that I neither think nor write between the lines. What you see is what you get. In no way did I mean to imply anything about the current political situation in our country and our military involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq. Yes, I do hate war, but at the same time I fully support our servicemen and women. They have committed part of their lives to serving this country, and they are committed to go where our leaders send them. I was feeling nostalgic and reflective, brought on from listening to the likes of Joan Baez and Peter, Paul and Mary - that's all. If anyone read any criticism of our troops in my post it was certainly not intentional.

I can only hope that the lack of comments is due to (1) Blogger being down so long this morning, (2) you are all very busy quilting and living your own lives, (3) Bloglines doesn't recognize my new post because I wrote it just before everything went down this morning, and (4) people are still having trouble with the commenting screen being blank for a long time when trying to access it. I've never gone this long without a comment since I started blogging, and the site meter shows people have visited today.

If you did take offense at my post I sincerely apologize. Please let me know in a private email, as I will be very happy to delete whatever is offensive to people. You have all become my dear friends, and it hurts me deeply to think that what I wrote has brought grief - however temporarily - to anyone.

On an entirely different note - we are supposed to get snow tomorrow! Not much here on the valley floor - maybe an inch or two. But enough to watch it come down - so pretty! I've mixed feelings about it this time. My hubby went to a math conference in Seattle after school today and will be driving home late tomorrow afternoon. Three hours on I-5. I hope the snow is off the roads and no more is falling by the time he is heading home.

I don't get a lot of comments at my blog. I don't think it means people are offended. (In my case I guess I'm just boring them to death.) Guess what, I didn't even read your previous one that you are apologizing for. You have a right to your opinion, and everyone else to theirs. Blogs are where people express themselves. I like it when people "muse" at their blogs and let their thoughts flow. Don't worry, be happy.

Lack of comment by me is that I just got here! I started to read this post and swooped down to see what you were talking about on your other post. I have lots to comment (not to worry... all good!). More in a sec...

BTW... Blogger was a brat today!

For some reason my bloglines is not updating a lot of people the last two days. And then I am having a terrible time trying to leave comments - very frustrating.

I certainly am not offended by your memories. I wish for peace as well and wonder why the lessons of the past generations are still unlearned. I believe you can be for peace and for the brave soldiers fighting. We can pray for both. And we must always remember the past.

Bloglines is still not recogising your last two posts - but it's the same for quite a lot of other Blogger blogs.

I was not offended at all! Just to busy to blog :)

That would be 'too' busy to blog!

Patti i enjoy reading your blog. I didn't get a chance to read yesterdays post so didn't leave a comment.

I've noticed things seem quieter since before Christmas and not as many people leave comments. Perhaps everyone is still busy and getting back into a normal routine again now that Christmas is over.

I did not read anything offensive - you have to remember that it is your blog - a place where you can share what ever you want!

My feeds were messed up so I missed it yesterday...

I also think that the slow down in comments is part of the bloglines convenience - especially when the photos show up in the bloglines - people read, but don't comment...

I still try to click into the blog, but sometimes the time does not allow it...

Good Morning Patti...Bloglines didn't update so I didn't get to read you yesterday...I just went back and read it and I thought you said it perfectly. Many of us that grew up in the 60's era are right there with you, I scratch my head daily asking why can't we look back into history and see what happened. My heart aches for the soldiers and their families. They are doing their jobs, and doing it to the best of their abilities with what they have.
As you said in your Gratitudes, we are blessed in this country to have freedom of speech and what we write...keep writing...I love what you have to say...got me thinking this morning and I thank you for that. Take care...Carol

Hi Patti - I didn't see you yesterday, and I saw updates in bloglines for some that, when I went to their blog, it wasn't up yet....go figure, cyber craziness.

Patti, I, for one, loved your post yesterday and totally agreed with it. However, I had trouble with Blogger ALL DAY yesterday---grrrrr. Aren't iPods just great? Got one myself from my younger son for Christmas. Keep writing your thoughts.

Blogger and I aren't the best of friends lately... It definately wasn't you. As a Canadian I much of what I hear from the US sounds fairly unreflective. You sounded nostalgic and reflective, not angry and blind -- It was wonderful.

Patti, your post was not offensive. I found it very nostalgic. And it is your blog and that's the purpose of it to write what you feel and hopefully, have intelligent and meaningful dialogue with others.

the world is a complicated place with lots going on and just as many opinions about how to handle the complexities. I think we all understood where you were writing from - YOUR HEART :)

I was able to read your blog yesterday but not able to comment. This was also true for other blogs I read. If I was able to comment I would of said the following. I have a son in NJROTC and is planning on a Navy military life. We are very involved in his unit and have met alot of Navy and other service personel. Many of the service personel I have talked to hate this war, but are still willing to give their lives to protect us.

I hate this war and even more so I HATE President Bush for getting us into this war. I am not saying he is a good president or bad because he is both on different days of the week.

I hope I am a better person because I read your blog and I was not offended and found no criticism of service personel.

I blog because it is a journal of my life, feelings, quilting and crafting. I write for me and somedays I just write how I feel. I do not care if anyone reads it. I do not care if anyone agrees or disagrees with me. I love to read other blogs and hear from others and respect what they have to say.

I hope you keep writing just as you always have!

I am not able to choose my identity today so I am going to choose Anonymous but I am really

Patti, Yup I"m reading yesterdays and todays. People on the old blogger were down yesterday. I knew I couldn't do anything for a long time in my blog and by afternoon I"m too busy at work to blog! I thought your words were beautiful. You have such a talent for writing.

Patti, you didn't even show up on my bloglines until this morning. And I know many I tried to visit yesterday were down. Or if they weren't down I couldn't comment. So lots of problems out in blogland yesterday.

I too hate war, but support our troops wholeheartedly.

A straight-forward point of view can't be offensive. Like everyone else has aleady said, Blogger was the trouble yesterday. After several attempts to leave comments, I just shut off my computer and got on with the day. Looks like a more cooperative situation today *s*

When I got to the computer in the morning blogger was acting up and then went totally down for hours. OLD blogger people couldn't open at all, but new bloggers could open and also leave comments. SO that might be why you had no comments...since you are still on old blogger. I read your post and found nothing offensive at all. I love the older quilts that tell stories!

Patti, I didn't read anything offensive in your posting yesterday. It's your blog, my friend, you say anything you want.

I didn't leave a comment because I'm still getting used to the idea that I need to sign in to my google acct before I can do anything - grrr. (teaching an old dog new tricks can be difficult - LOL)

Patti,
Bloglines didn't update your posts...today you had 3 new posts that Bloglines finally recognized. I was not offended by your post; I actually liked it and agreed with you. I have one son in Afghanistan and one who could soon be in Iraq and one who is at a military academy. I hate war...those are my sons over there.

I never thought of doing a quilt that could reflect what I think &/or feel about the war and also my support of my sons and our servicemen and women...that could be an interesting project. For me it would be a quilt of conflicting emotions.

Thanks for your musings...my head is now spinning with ideas.

I have been very moved by your postings and the comments people have made. The one that touched me the most was Cheryl who said "Those are my sons over there". And there is the rub, no matter what your personal view of the rights and wrongs of war, when it is your son in the firing line it's you who hurts for them. I live in New Zealand so there is very little chance my son will be in that situation. But as a mother I feel for those of you who have sons and daughters who are. Maybe you will have inspired someone to make a quilt which makes a political statement. Conflicting emotions is what it is indeed.

Well you can add me to long list of people who weren't offended by your post - I didn't see either of them until tonight and I didn't read anything that you wrote that could possibly be offensive to anyone.

I really like your post - I am just a late reader. Bloglines must have had serious hickups as the unread posts are piling up now.

Patti, (as usual) you and I are on the same wavelength. I am exactly your age. I don't consider myself an old hippie, but I do grieve--often--for the lack of introspection or sensitivity--or whatever it is--in young people. I raised 2 "Free to be You and Me" daughters, and the one with children is raising her boy and girl with such gender specificity that it sometimes drives me wild! I think many racial, gender, and political strides our generation made are either taken for granted (and thus in danger of being forgotten) or have become lost in the Cult of Me movement.

Sorry to use your blog as a soapbox. Just wanted to say, "Hey, I can relate, man!" And in the past year, I've bought Joan Baez and Bob Dylan CD's, along with my Eric Clapton and Rod Stewart. Wanna borrow 'em?

Patti, I'm writing so late because I'm so far behind. I'm in your generation, I was against "the" war in the 60s and 70s. Then I joined the Army Reserve and eventually the Air National Guard. I met a lot of people who had fought in 'Nam and I learned to respect them and their decisions-not all were drafted.
Now I'm retired from the ANG, and I'm so frustrated with what is going on. I will support the troops and their families, but not the politicians who send them.
Sorry to go on so long, but your post made me reflective too.
