Comments and drawing entries

I have 36 names in my basket for the drawing. Comments are still coming in, and I anticipate posting several more items for give away.

Since my blog is open to comments by people who do not have a blogger account, it's going to be important that those without accounts identify themselves by more than their first name when they leave a comment. Last names aren't important - unless you win of course - but something to identify you would help a lot. So far I have at least three "anonymous" comments where all I have is a first name. This isn't a problem unless two people have the same first name.

So - if you are leaving me a comment and you don't have a blogger account - and thus are labeled as "anonymous" - please leave me more than your first name by which I can identify you.

I'm working diligently to get through my magazines. I'm now on the second stack. I hope to be finished by the end of the weekend so I can start filing. There are some magazines that are going straight back onto the shelf - I figured that would probably happen. I can't bear to take apart either my Australian magazines or Quiltmania or my Quilt Samplers. Speciality issues by QNM have very few advertising pages so those are going back on the shelf also.

I've learned one thing -here all this time I thought QNM was my favorite magazine and the last one I'd want to cancel the subscription for. However I'm finding myself saving many more things out of McCalls and American Patchwork and Quilting than I am QNM. I love the articles in QNM and usually read it cover to cover - which I can do just fine at the library. I've not changed my mind at all by doing this - I'm going to let all my subscriptions lapse.

I hope your shoulder continues to get better. I have stopped getting subscriptions to magazines too. I hate not supporting them, especially when I love getting them in the mail, but there are already more patterns available to me than I can possibly make - so all they do is make me more tempted to start more projects before old ones are finished, and /or make me feel guilty for buying magazines / patterns that I don't use.

This is such a great and generous idea to give your unwanted items to quilters who would Love to have them! I would Love to have your Wedding Stars pattern! So pretty!

I love getting my solitary subscription in the post BUT I hate it when there's nothing in the magazine that I want to read or do. I started my subscription as I go away a lot and hated missing an issue of this particular magazine, but now I'm not so sure LOL. Also I get mad when new subscribers get special offers and deals. What about regular subscribers? is there no reward for loyalty? Just a thought (or two) :O)

I've been watching my quilting magazine purchases. I go to Joann's and look at my favorites. If there is enough in the magazine that I think I would like to make I use a 40% off coupon on it. I love quilting magazines, but like most quilters my patterns or lists of things to make seems endless!

It is hard to let those subscriptions lapse but after finding magazines and more magazines and more . . since we moved, I've renewed none of mine.

Hi
I have subscribed to 3 and after 18 months, can't say I have made any of the patterns in them, there has only been maybe 6 reaaaallly good patterns that I have put aside to do when the current round of projects is nearly done (we can all live in hope!!) I think its become cheaper to buy the pattern that I really really want to do, because then I finish it. Good luck with the sorting. sounds like a great idea (mmm husband not listening, maybe I should go through mine and give them away)

Glad your shoulder is getting better. I, too, have let all my subscriptions lapse and really I don't miss them like I thought I would.

We need to let the publishers know that quilters don't appreciate the massive amount of advertising in their magazines. I'd rather use my $$ to buy a specific book or a pattern.

I no longer subscribe to any. I miss reading good articles, but I get enough good reading on the web.

hi Pati, Thanks for encouraging me to reorganize my magazines again. Before we moved (in July) I reduced a lot of my QNMs from the late 80s and 90s, just took the pages which are still interesting. Great idea to offer what we not use anymore - greetings from Poland Brigitte

I can't remember who pointed out your blog to me. But I can tell you I've enjoyed reading it this past week. It's nice to know I'm not the only one with a unfinished pile which doesn't seem to shrink, but yet I have finished quilts at the end of the year.

As far as magazines go, I was a knitting magazine junky prior to quiting taking over my life, so I knew of the pit fall prior to getting the subscriptions. I had one to Quiltmaker --as I was following a mystery or something - but I'm letting that one lapse. QNM on the other hand I seldom bought, but subscribed to it this summer for the 3 part fiction by Jennifer Chiverinani. I may keep that subscription going when it's time to renew.

Good luck going through your stash, and I hope your shoulder heals quickly.

I have let my subscriptions lapse too.
