Another finish!

I accomplished at least one of my goals for this weekend - I finished this wall hanging. This is one of my very oldest UFO's. I started it in 1992 from what are definitely fabrics of the 80's - pin dots, tiny calicos, mauves and blues.

In 1992 I was lucky enough to attend both the International Quilt Market and Festival in Houston. I was teaching quilting for Daisy Kingdom, and they agreed to pay for my room, food and classes if I covered my plane fare and helped set up their giant booth.

I took a one day "Peaky and Spike" class from Doreen Speckmann. She was a delightful teacher that the quilting world lost when she died much too young of a heart attack. I loaded this on the machine last evening and finished most of the quilting before bed. It didn't take long to do the border this afternoon. I used several different quilting designs that I've not ever done before - I'm still very much a beginner when it comes to longarm quilting. I'm very happy with how it turned out - as long as I don't look too closely. After all - done is better than perfect, right?

I've hung this over the piano - I think it will be a nice decoration for the first half of February. It's so nice to have it all finished!

The timing on the finish of this wallhanging is perfect for Feb! The blue flabric in the wallhanging compliments the paint on the wall perfectly! Nicely done!.........oh, and you are so brave to do feathers! I love the quiltinging--I think you have gone beyond beginner with that machine now!

sounds like the wal hanging has great memories, and above a piano no one but you will be close enough to see the "practise" nature of the quilting! :-)

Good for you finishing such an old UFO. It looks really nice against that blue wall. I must admit I ditched all of my really old ones a few years ago.

Congrats on the finish - just in time for Valentine's Day! Doesn't it feel good to mark another UFO off the list?!

Wow 1992! Now that's a finished UFO!! Good going on getting it done and off the list! I think your quilting is marvelous! I think we have to learn that having it done is just as good as having "award winning quality" stiching. Who are these judges anyway?? They don't come to my house!!

Good job Patti!

Wow it looks strange to see something you are working on that is not Sophie's stars!

It goes so nicely with your pretty blue wall.

How is the log in going - I don't even have to log in to post comments on bloglines anymore. I am already there. I am so happy!

Patti: It's beautiful. You were so lucky to have taken the class with Doreen Speckman. I never had a class with her but heard so much about how wonderful she was as a teacher.

Your longarming looks great!

What a great choice to finish up for February and you have most of the month to enjoy it too. I have the templates but haven't yet made a Peaky and Spike quilt.

That looks superb - the colors may be 'dated' but they look great against your blue wall! :)

Yeah - a finish from the UFO pile -- good for you. And it is just perfect for the "Valentine" season.

good for you Patti, finishing an old UFO. Another one to cross of your list. I'm in the process of quilting my third UFO for the year and can't wait to cross it off my list.

Peaky and spike, great name for a class and a great seasonal quilt. I always wanted to have a seasonal quilt wall that I would change the quilt with the seasons...Oh well, after I finish all the other UFO's around the sewing room.

1992 must be something of a record for old ufo's. I might have a couple that go back that far.

good work!

How long have you been longarm quilting? I just got my longarm a few weeks ago - so I'm really a beginner. I like what you've done so far!
