October goals

At the beginning of the month I talked about the stretch goals I'd written.  One or two of you thought they might be a little too challenging.  You were right!  I finished five of the 10, though technically two are just "almost finished".  They'll be done by the end of retreat so I'm going to count them.  My goals, my rules LOL!

I will carry the rest into November.  Early next week I'll decide whether or not to add more.  Right now I'm thinking "No."

Goals

I accomplished a lot quilt-wise in June.  I am very happy with all I got done.  Nevertheless, I didn't accomplish 5 of my 9 goals, and only half accomplished another.  Obviously I grossly overestimated what I could get done this month.

When I think about setting July goals I just feel tired.  For once I have no idea what I want to work on.  I think it is probably the heat making me feel like this, as it really isn't like me at all.  Today is to be another hot one, and then temperatures are supposed to start dropping back to normal.  I'm looking forward to that.  So I'm setting one broad goal for the month and calling it good.

"By the end of July I will see progress made on many new and ongoing fiber projects."

How's that for vague?  Just what I feel I need this month.  I know I will be sewing, quilting, knitting and possibly spinning.  I just don't know what yet.  And that is good enough for me.

End of May report

I know - May doesn't end for a couple more days.  However, I feel like today is a good day to take stock and set new goals - probably because I know I won't complete anything else by Friday evening.

I did nicely with my May quilting goals but failed with the rest of the goals.  I've been so focused on quilting that everything else has been shifted to the back seat.   I feel I accomplished a lot - definitely more that I thought I would at the beginning of the month.

Quilty successes include:

1.  Finishing "Hat Trick"
2.  Finishing "Peter Cottontail"
3.  Finishing "Bunny Hop"
4.  Basted 13 little quilts for hand quilting
5.  Completed 45 Shoo Fly blocks and cut out "parts" for many more
6.  Completed 22 30's basket blocks, 18 to swap and 6 to keep and cut out the white parts for several dozen more
7.  Pieced May's Schnibbles quilt - "A Gentle Art"

I didn't piece any Civil War Diary blocks as I was too busy with other things, so that goal will move to June.  Since so many other things are happening I'm changing it to one row instead of two.  I'm determined to do that much for sure, so it will be my first goal.

I didn't do anything with my 12 Dear Jane blocks, as my mind keeps coming up with new ideas as to how to set them.  So I'm tucking that project away for now until I can settle on one idea.

I did finish knitting a pair of socks while we were camping.  I've pulled another partially finished pair from my projects basket which I should have no trouble finishing in June.  It is the same pattern as the May pair, so I can knit them from memory rather than depending on a chart.  We are going camping for 5 days in June, and knitting is a great camping project.

Spinning - well, both wheels are in the living room, both have partially filled bobbins with remaining fiber draped over the top of each one.  I've not touched either wheel since the last week in April.  I'm not concerned - right now my quilting mojo is MUCH stronger than my spinning mojo.  I know I'll get back to spinning, but I'm not sure just when.  Certainly in July if not before, when Ravelry will once again host the "Tour de Fleece".  This is a time when hundreds and hundreds of spinners make beautiful yarn while watching the Tour de France.  I spun several pounds last year during the Tour, and should be able to do the same this year.

That brings me to the final goal - book reorganization.  The floor in the family room is still covered with knitting books and bags of paperbacks.  Two shelves of paperbacks have yet to be put into bags.  I'm waiting for my DH to bring the bags downstairs and put them in the car so I can give away the books.  I've reminded him several times, but there they sit.  He's the one who spends the most time in that room so they obviously don't bother him.  And I've been too busy quilting to nag him about.  It will happen eventually, but I'm going to stop thinking about it.

All in all, I'm quite happy with what I accomplished in May.

I think I bit off . . . .

more than I could chew, as my mother would have said, when I set my March goals.  I accomplished some, but quite a few are unfinished.  Over half of them.  I'm going to be more realistic from now on.

Goals I accomplished:

4.  I called the book reorganization finished because everything has been taken upstairs.  However, there are still many sacks upstairs full of books to donate, plus lots of romance novels still on the shelves.  I'm going to look at the bright side - everything I wanted to move from the sewing room is now on shelves next door in the computer room.  That's why I called it finished.  While making the move I decided I needed to simplify my book arrangement, which I just started yesterday.  That shouldn't be hard to finish in April.

5.  I have my ironing table and design wall cleared off for use.  This was essential, and was the first goal I finished this month.

7.  All four of the quilted quilts are now bound (but don't have labels yet - whoops!).  That was another important goal to finish this month.

9.  Finish one pair of socks.  I hoped to finish more than one, but I'm satisfied.

I could have accomplished more, but I got sidetracked by sewing.  ( That happens a lot.)  So I accomplished other things - just not goals.

What didn't happen:

1. & 2.  The longarm is still waiting for attention.  I've had to move many, many fleeces, etc. into that room to find fiber I must spin for a class I'm taking in a couple weeks.  I don't know why I keep postponing this - probably because I'm totally un-mechanical and am not looking forward to spending the hours this will require.  I find other things to do instead.

3.  Emily's quilt isn't finished.  This I'm not happy with.  I should have finished it this month.  The good news is that I've found the quilt backing fabric.  My first goal for April will be to finish it.  I'm going to take it to another longarm quilter this week.

6.  The Civil War diaries quilt got a little attention this month - sashing was chosen and the first row was sewn together.  I decided to sew a little quilt instead of making these blocks.  I'm OK with that.

7.  Emma's quilt is progressing - slowly.  It is the handwork I do at my Tangled Threads weekly meeting.  As long as it is progressing I'm satisfied.  But I'd like to have it done in April.

10.  I finished spinning 4 oz of fiber and started spinning another 4 oz.  I've not yet figured out a good monthly spinning goal.  I seem to be spinning only when I'm with my spinning friends - not doing any here at home right now.

So - I'm OK with not finishing 3 of my goals.  I'm not OK with not finishing the other two.  I'm definitely keeping that in mind when I write my April goals.
