I put the borders on this one tonight. I chose this fabric because the color reminds me of the tall Douglas firs and other evergreen trees we camp under. Now that it's on I'm not all that thrilled with it. I think the top needed something brighter. That's OK - I learned something from this - and it's just fine for a camper quilt. I'll put this one on Fred's bed - he won't care what color the border is LOL!
I'll cut the borders for the second one now, but I won't get them sew on until tomorrow or Wednesday.
Patti: I think I like the darker borders on this one. I think it keeps is masculine and keeps the blocks "contained". Good job!

Alice has the same onesie as Sophie-although it barely fits anymore- she is such a cutie pie...love the baby photos..

ReplyDeleteI like the dark, simple borders--they seem to focus your eye more on the pieces in the center and calm the quilt down a bit while making the colors pop!

ReplyDeleteAll these orphan quilts I keep seeing have convinced me that I need to pull out my orphan blocks to see if I have anything that will work with anything else. Good job on this one. I like the darker border -- it puts a finality on the riot of color in the center.

Our boys lost last night! I wonder if they are shook up over Hargrove's leaving. I don't see how they could get past such a huge change right away. Ah, but today's a new game, right?
I have about 5 orphan blocks so far but am too busy trying to finish the current wall hanging to go look for more. I think the dark border keeps the high activity level of the blocks corralled very well. Did you create any blocks to fill in empty spaces?

ReplyDeleteI felt the same way about my Pineapple border. Blue is my choice of color for scrappy quilts like this but I don't want every scrap quilt I own to have a blue border so I'm sticking with the purple/red print one (I actually considered removing the border for a minute or two).

A great quilt and the darker borders work as it gives the eye a place to rest after looking at all the blocks.
