Christmas breakfast

A merry Christmas morning to each and every one of you! We've not had children for Christmas morning for some years now, so it's become a good morning for sleeping in. Especially the last few years when we've known what we each got the other for Christmas. No packages to open this year either. So I didn't get up until about 8:00 - sheer bliss! My back awoke me at 2:30 am and I didn't get back to sleep until I took some ibuprofin, then the dog got me up shortly after 5:00. I felt fairly awake then but knew I'd not had enough sleep, so I forced the dog to come back to bed, and promptly fell back asleep myself.

Christmas breakfast was easy and fast but very tasty - I had it on the table just before nine. Cinnamon pull-aparts from the bakery, pepper bacon and link sausage from our favorite butcher, and scrambled eggs with a bit of melted cheddar cheese. Topped off by orange juice spiked with asti, and asti to drink too. We don't like champagne - too dry for our tastes - so a fruity sparkling asti is the perfect compliment.

I hope all the rest of you are eating well too. With the big turkey dinner behind me, today will be easy. Bake the baguettes and cut them into cubes, heat the cheese fondue and make the fruit salad. As long as Rick is feeling good enough to come for awhile this afternoon. We all have our fingers crossed. If he doesn't I guess we'll put off the rest of Christmas until next Saturday.

Yesterday our son brought his "wii" - his Christmas present from Chelsea that he stood outside at 5:00 a.m. to get. This is the newest Nintendo for those of you who don't know what a "wii" is - which included us until yesterday. He hooked it up to our TV and we all gave it a try. Certainly not a couch potato game like other video games. The bowling was fun, and it involves standing up and moving the control and your body just like you would if you were holding a bowling ball. The golf gave involves swing the control like you would a golf club. Those were the only two we tried out and they were a lot of fun - even though I screwed up my back again "bowling". Chelsea said the boxing is a real workout - you have an additional piece to the control so you have one in each hand, then you stand up and move your hands and feet like you were boxing. Good exercise I guess, and obviously a lot more fun that a treadmill or elliptical.

Now I'm relaxing and sipping the rest of my asti and reading blogs. When I'm finished I'll shower and get dressed. From the sounds of it my dear husband is cleaning the kitchen - that's a wonderful gift for the morning!

  1. Well , we too knew almost all the presents but we still wrap them and go through the motions of un-wrapping them. Lots of fabulous fabrics I got to feel and oogle!! We always still head over to my mom's for breakfast and opening presents, but it;'s so fun to have the kids there still for the real joy of seeing them open things. Next year will be really fun with that new grandbaby!

    Happy Christmas Patti!

  2. Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas morning. You are braver than I am for trying the Wii. I don't think I would find it very enjoyable. I prefer the real activity.

Tee Hee I make the kitties take a nap too... (Unlike most cats, we have to feed our like you do a dog - rather then let them graze at will.)

  6. I love the taste of asti in the morning! LOL, we were given a bottle of asti for a wedding gift many years ago and it is still our preference. Sounds like you had a wonderful day, hope the coming year will be equally as wonderful.

  7. We still have kids to open presents in the morning but they finally got old enough that they like to sleep a bit in the morning too. I think we got up about 8 too! So that was sooo nice! Sounds like you had a fun day. That wii sounds like fun. Adam's friend got one for Christmas, but I haven't seen it yet since he didn't come home. Sounds fun!

  9. Sounds like a perfect Christmas morning . . . yummy, too. Even without kids, I still can't stand to wait for Christmas to start -- I HAVE to get up and get going. I'm the biggest kid of all.

  10. we did a breakfast Christmas gathering at my mom's house because our daughter flew in from Spokane at 8am. Then we got to be back home in the afternoon and evening for our own little family Christmas celebration. It certainly is differened but also simpler as the kids get older
Merry Christmas to you - Juliann

  11. You said... "then the dog got me up shortly after 5:00. I felt fairly awake then but knew I'd not had enough sleep, so I forced the dog to come back to bed,..." You WERE talking about a 4 footed kind of dog, not your husband, right?

    *giggles*

How do you force a dog to go back to bed?
