Counting down - number two is finished

The Asian Star is finished.  Amazingly enough, I still had the green fabric in my stash, so was able to bind it appropriately.  I think that green is a VIP cotton that I bought during the 80's for a fraction of what good quilting cotton goes for today.


This is a beautiful Asian print.  I never buy Asian prints!  If I remember correctly this quilt was a "class sample" hung on the wall at Daisy Kingdom to entice people to sign up for the class.  The class director had a lot to say about what fabrics I could choose for samples, and I'm sure she was the one who picked it.  I love it, but I wouldn't have bought it for myself.



Backs are a great place to put fabrics you are no longer enthusiastic about.  I have no idea what I was thinking when I bought this watermelon fabric.  The colors go with the front of the quilt, however LOL!

    The backing fabric made me laugh out loud -- you mean to tell me that watermelon and Asian prints AREN'T meant to go together ;)

    I think 70% of my stash is made up of prints that I used to love, but now that I'm a more "experienced" quilter I look a them and cringe bc they're so not my style. So everything is backed with the oddest assortments :)

    Hello Patti, I've just had a lovely time reading your old posts about the 1/4" seam or should I say the right seam allowance. I must check what my 1/4"foot measures as I have a Bernina.I've had the masking tape in place before but never a wall. When I have some time I will check out your other helpful hints.

    This is so intricate! Beautiful! The only sewing I did today was to play with the 1/4" setting on my machine as per one of your tuts.I'm going to try to return my 'new' piecing foot. I did pre-shrink some fannelette, cut fabric to cover boards my husband cut out for me for portable ironing boards, bought a bit more fabric and started cutting 2 1/2 16" strips for a baby boys trip around the world. Got a lot more to cut.

    oh I like that watermelon fabric its just plain fun!
    great quilt I don't buy asian fabric either but it really works in this quilt , its beautiful

    I have several Asian fabrics but don't know what to do with them. Don't know why I bought them unless it was for the colors. I'll have to figure out how to use them.
