Stash Report - Week 5

I'm beginning to think this isn't the right time for me to be stashbusting. Not because my buying is out of control, but because the quilting I'm doing in the next few months won't do anything for stashbusting. All the quilts that need quilting already have backs. I will be cutting some fabric for applique, but not enough that it will pay to count it. If I start anything new it will be from either my scrap drawers or from a kit I already have. I know I won't cut buying out entirely - I've cut WAY down with that - but there is no point to report "no stash busted" every week. At the end of this year, if I've quilted as many flimsies as I want to quilt, and I've busted a bunch of my scraps, it will be time to start thinking of stashbusting. As Judy says, everyone will know when it's the right time to stash bust - and for me it isn't now.

So - I'll still stick with my goal of using more fabric this year than I buy, but I won't be doing weekly stash reports. Today's will be the last report.

Fabric in - one kit with about a yard of fabric from my Jan Patek Mini-Quilt club - auto shipped
Fabric out - nada

The good news is I visited Momma Made It - my favorite shop - on Thursday, and Friday I went to two quilt shops - one of which was new to me and positively wonderful! - and a quilt show and I didn't buy any fabric! It was certainly hard to resist.

(Shhh. . . don't tell Judy . . . I did ask Sharon at Momma Made It to put together a kit for the Kennesaw Mountain Quilt using the new Pink Chocolate line by Windham that she just got in as well as other fabrics. It'll be awhile before I pick up that fabric so it doesn't count until I do!)

  1. in your case buying the kit is a lot better than buying the whole line of that fabric thinking about making that quilt!!!!
you would have bought many more yards for that quilt!!!!
can't wait to see that one, its on my list to make to, but scrappy! I will have to buy the alternate fabric though and probably borders LOL

  3. I know just what you mean about stashbusting. I have plenty of fabric, but still I always want to buy more. I'm trying to think about what I have and pull from it first, but sometimes there's nothing like just adding to the stash. In the end it's about enjoying our hobby the best way we know how.

  5. I agree about the stash..enjoy your hobby!

Now, I'm interested to see how you quilt comes out. Mine was short of fabric...I think it's just not having 45" of real yardage. I could have pieced the border fabric because they gave us an extra section, but the light for the blocks was short. No way I could have had enough without piecing the last block from 2" pieces. SO I cut mine from 5.5" blocks to 5" blocks and made it smaller with no wording.

  6. I've got plenty of fabric too and am on a self-imposed fabric diet...must get all those projects finished before I even consider any more.

Don't forget though Patti: quilting IS your passion!

  7. I have plenty of fabric too. I stopped feeling guilty about having and buying fabric. I have tried to limit by buying this year, especially since I work at Jo-Ann Fabrics.

  8. We need a No Guilt Fabric Buyers logo. =)

I'm still looking at it as my retirement fund - for when we go back to living in a stick built house. I retired 3.5 years ago, and my stash lives at my best friend's house . . . and two storage rooms in two different states, 1500 miles from each other! Of course, I have to keep replenishing it in the 5th wheel, or else what would I use to sew? =)
