Progress

I've completely filled up my design wall, so I couldn't resist posting this picture. This is 180, 3" hourglass units. I think I have at least twice this many left. I'm going to have to start sewing them together so there is more room on the wall. I still have no idea whether I'm going to make it as is or like a medallion. Come on folks - let me know which you think you'd like best.

  1. I do like them higgledy piggledy, but I would be very interested to see them as a medallion!

  3. Patti I like them just the way they are...it looks very old...like our grandmothers would have done...used what they had.

  4. Thanks for your help with the difference between "hour glass" and "broken dishes" blocks. I see now that in the hour glass blocks opposite triangles are the same fabric where as in the broken sishes it is not.

  5. Since they are all the same size, I would probably go with them as they are and if you want relief for the eye, an outside border. It's gorgeous.

  6. I love this layout! I might inset a black or other solid border to give the eye a break, but I"d definately go with this sort of layout, but that's me. What speaks to you?

  8. I love the hourglass quilt as is -- but then I love mixed up scrappy quilts -- they just speak to me.
How lucky you are to be taking those monthly classes. They sound so wonderful and so informative. Thanks for posting the pictures and telling us about them.

  9. I love the way your broken dishes quilt is set, but for this one a strait set would be awesome!

  11. I like it the way it is also. It makes it look more FUN and QUILTY, not planned and all stressful. :) Great job. And, wow, when you say quilting is your PASSION, you mean buisness, girl! :)

  12. That would be "business", not the other way I spelled it..bad fingers! :)

  13. Since I LOVE the scrappy look, I would vote for keeping it just as it is - but it is your quilt and you should do what you love!

  15. The blocks are lovely. I like them with this disposition. How do you stick them to the wall? I always put my blocks on the floor before I sew them but this solution is much more interesting.

  16. I guess the question that you need to answer is do you really want two medallion quilts that would look similar?

My opinion would be to do the quilt the way it is on the design board, add a dark blue skinny inner border (1-1/2-2"), followed a row of HST's, then a dark blue outer border.

  17. I had to read all the comments and then re-visit your blog to see the earlier Broken Dishes Quilt. I gasped with pleasure when I saw the current post, but do you want another like the Broken Dishes? It's so cool -- but I would make 'something else' in a center, and use these blocks around the border. Just my opinion .. but they are lovely!

  19. I really like the hourglass blocks - they just look colorful gems on your board. I am awful at design, but I'm anxious to see what you decide.

  20. I do love you medallion designs a lot, but if you cam eup with something else I would probably love it too!! So I am game for anything you decide really. Sometimes an all over pattern like 1000 triangles looks fabulous.

The class looks wonderfula nd the pictures are absolutely amazing!

  21. Wow!!! I love your hourglass blocks. You are tempting me to start a new project. I love how your Broken Dishes Medallion quilt turned out, too. I'm tempted to make one of those now. Fun, colorful, eye candy :)
