I only found your stash last week and spent a lot of time catching up. I read every post. Then I started cutting up my scraps and have 6 blocks made of a sisters choice quilt. Mine is of a fairly comfortable size really, but can take some using, from the room point of view - just for the fun of it, and to make room other lovely fabrics. I am living in a small house without a sewing room. I am quilting for the fun, always :-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5109774646057111207.post-38837187692895946382006-08-03T15:44:00.000-07:002006-08-03T15:44:00.000-07:00Very well said Patti...thank you for sharing that....Very well said Patti...thank you for sharing that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5109774646057111207.post-87797410547751066582006-08-03T16:24:00.000-07:002006-08-03T16:24:00.000-07:00Very nice. I can understand every point you made and have made them myself many times in the past. But at this time in my life I find the shear quantity of my stash to be overwhelming so it's time for me to use it up and mostly start over from scratch wiht a more controlled stash that suits the style quilts I like to make now.

Not that I'll ever totally use it up because I have a very large scrap collection that continues to grow no matter how many quilts I cut from it. And as I like scrappy quilts best these bits and pieces are worth much more to me than the yards I have languishing in their cabinets.

And when I do resume buying fabric I think those fabrics I just fall in love wiht and have to have can come home with me as a FQ instead of a 2-4 yd piece since all I seem to do with them is look at them and pet them and put them back in the cabinet.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5109774646057111207.post-23683955768920287462006-08-03T17:33:00.000-07:002006-08-03T17:33:00.000-07:00I agree whole-heartedly with you! Sometimes I buy fabric knowing I may not even use it, but it was beautiful fabric, and it brought me happiness to have it. Then, when I'm not in love with it anymore- my kids use it for projects or I pass it along like you said. I think of that little piece of fabric and all the happiness and joy it brought to all the people it came in contact with. :-)

Thanks for the wonderful reminders. We recently had to decide to stay in the small condo with the tiny payment..or go back to work for the larger house. The condo is looking better and better. It's all about trade off. As a new quilter, I have 1/10th of what you might have, but then I've only bought for 3 years and usually bought for a particular project. Just now am I starting to take my spending money...pick one color, and buy everything I can for that amount in ONE color. I buy 1/3 yards for the stash.

Love you list of scrap pieces!
